Making a String bow

I made this bow with psp v. 9. but I think you will be able to do this in other
versions of psp as well.

1... Open a new canvas in paint shop shop, using these settings....
width = 300
height = 300
Resolution = 200.00 Pixel/Inches
Raster Background = checked.
Color Depth = 16 million colors
Transparent = checked
Click ok.

2.... Set your foreground color to the color you want you bow to be. Set the
background color to null.
Now choose the Ellipse  in you Preset Shape, and use these setting across
the top.
Create as Vector = checked
Line style = Solid
Width = 11
Anti-Alias = checked.
Now use your mouse and pull out a long narrow ellipse shape. like the one below.
Now click on your pen tool. Then right click on top of the Oval you just made
and click Convert to path, you should now have a online with 4 box nodes,
around it. Click on top of the box node to your right. It should now look like this.
You will see what looks like a arrow at the end. Place you mouse directly on the
top part of the arrow. Left click and hold the mouse button, drag down till you get
to the center of the box on the right.
You should now have one part of your bow, that looks like this...
Now we will need to change it
to a raster layer. To do this go to the top and click "Layers", then click
"Convert to raster layer"
3...Now  we will add a Inner Bevel where the bow will stand out more.
Go to the top
and click Effects > 3D Effects > then click Inner Bevel. Use these settings...
Bevel = number 2
Smoothness = 48
Depth = 7
Ambience = 0
Shininess = 17
Width = 9
Color = white
Angel = 307
Intensity = 40
Elevation = 40
Click Ok.
4...Now we will want to duplicate this layer. To do this go to the top and click
Layers, then click duplicate.
Now we will set this layer at a angle. Go to the top and click "Image > Rotate >
then click Free Rotate, use these settings....
Direction = Left
Free = clicked, set at 25.00
All layers = unchecked
Rotate single layer around canvas center = unchecked.
Click ok.
Now use the move tool and place it to look like one side of a bow.
It should look something like this...
Now merge all the layers together. Do this by going to Layers > Merge and then
click Merge Visible.

5....Now we will duplicate this layer so that we have 2 sides of a bow.
Go to the top and click, Layers > then click duplicate.

Now go back to the top and click, Image, then click Mirror.
You should now have 2 pieces of the bow. You can now use the Move Tool
and arrange the pieces to look like a bow.

6... Making the Bow Ties...
Now we can make the strings for the bottom part of the bow.
First you will need to add a new raster layer, to do this, go to the top and click
Layers, then click New Raster Layer.

Now click on the Pen Tool, Use these setting across the top...
Mode  = Draw Lines and Polylines
Connect Segments = unchecked
Create on Vector = unchecked
Show Nodes = unchecked
Line Style = Solid
Width = 11
Now draw 2 lines to a v shaped  down from the bow.
It should look something like this....
Now we will add inner bevel. Go back to the top and Click, Effects > 3DEffects
then click Inner Bevel. Use the same settings as you did in # 3. "

Now we must move this layer to the bottom. Go to Layers > Arrange > then click
move down. Do this step once again.
Now we will merge all the layers together. Go to the top and click Layers >
Merge > then click Merge Visible.

Your bow is now complete. At this point. you could add a button for the
center or you can just put a circle in the center for the knot in the bow.
With mine I added a new layer then I used
  preset shape circle and then adding the
same inner bevel as you did in # 3
If you do make a center make sure to Merge all layers again and then save as a
psp file so you can use in  your scraps for later use.
You can also experiment a  by using some patterns.
Here is a example of another one..

Hope you enjoyed this tut.
