Envelope with Card

Level : Beginners

This tut was made with psp 9 but I think it can be done in others as well.

Lets get started...

1. First open up a canvas by going to File, then click New.

Use these setting :

Width =350

Height= 250

Resolution = 200.00

Units = Pixels

Image Characteristics = Raster Background

Color Depth = 16 Million Colors

Transparent = checked

Click ok

2... Now click on the Selections Tool and use these setting across the top.

Selections type = Triangle

Mode = add

Feather = 0

Anti alias = checked

Now start on your left hand side of the canvas and pull out and down to form a triangle. This will be the top of the envelope.

Now click on the Flood Fill Tool and flood fill with a color of your choice. I used a medium pink.

Now we can deselect the triangle by going to the top. Click Selections and click Select None.

Now click on the Move Tool and move the triangle piece to the top of the canvas, so we will have room to make the bottom of the envelope.

3.Now we will need to make a new layer. Go to the top, click Layers, then click New Raster Layer.

Now click the Selections Tool again and this time set the selections to Rectangle. Now start on the left corner of the envelope and drag out to the right to  meet the right corner and then drag down to form a rectangle.

Click on the Flood Fill Tool and flood fill the inside of the rectangle.

Go back to the top and click Selections, then click Select None to deselect it.

Now we will want to duplicate the rectangle. To do this go to the top and click, Layers then click Duplicate.

4... Now we will make the note card that fits in the middle. We will make this the same way as you did in step 3 but you will want to make the rectangle a little smaller so it will fit inside the card.

First you will want to make another layer. Go to the top and click Layers, then click New raster layer.

Now click on the selections tool and make another rectangle inside the one you just made, but make it a little smaller this time.

Now click on the Flood Fill and flood fill the inside of the rectangle with a lighter color. I used a light pink.

Now you can deselect by going to the top and click Selections and then click Select none.

You should now have something that looks like this.

5...Now we will ad the top part of the envelope.

First you will need to open the layer palette. If it isn't already open, you can click F8 on your keyboard and it will appear.

Now look at the layer palette and click on top of the one that says, Copy of Raster Layer 2. It should be highlighted in blue.

Now we will want to move this layer to the top of the list.

To do this, go to the top and click, Layers, go down to arrange and then click Bring to top.

6... Now we will cut out another triangle so that you will be able to see the note card on the inside of the envelope.

To do this, click on the Freehand Selections Tool, use these settings across the top.

Selection Type, = Point to point

Mode = add

Feather = 0

Smoothing = 0

Anti-alias = checked

Now start on the top left end side of the rectangle. Click the mouse button just above the corner. Now move down at a angle, and stop in the middle of the rectangle and click the mouse again. Now move to the top right hand corner and click the mouse again. Now move across to the left to finish the triangle. Once you get all the way back around to the left corner, click the mouse 2 times.

You should now have something that looks like this...

Now go to the top and click on Edit then click Cut.

Now we will add a drop shadow.

Go back to the top, click Effects >3D Effects, then click Drop Shadow, using these settings...

Vertical = minus 5 "-5"

Horizontal = minus 1   "-1"

Opacity = 40

Blur = 6.00

Color = Black

Shadow on new layer = unchecked.

Click ok.

7. Now we will want to merge the back of the envelope together. To do this go to the Layers Palette. On the layer palette you will see what look like little eye icons. We will need to hide the top 2 layers. To do this click on top of the eye icon beside the one that says Copy of Raster 2 and click on top of the eye icon beside the one that says Raster 3.

Now click on top of Raster 2 to highlight it. Your layer palette should now look something like this....

Now we will merge these 2 layers together. Go to the top and click Layers > Merge > then click Merge Visible.

Now you can click on the 2 red x's in your layer palette to unhide the layers.

8... Now at the point you are done with your envelope,

Save as a psp file so that you will be able to add things for later use.

you can arrange the piece the way you want by using the Move tool. I moved the inside note card up some so it would look like it is coming out of the envelope.

You can decorate the envelope the way you want with tubes, ribbons bows or what ever else you can come up with. Be creative with it.

Once you are done with it, you will have to merge the finished one. Do this by going to the top and click, Layers > Merge > then click merge visible.

Hope you enjoyed this tut.
